natural sources of pharmacological agents

The 20,000 or so genes in the human genome produce RNA and protein molecules that take part in physiological processes. We can attempt to account for the pathophysiology of diseases in terms of abnormal/pathogenic behavior of molecules such as proteins. One approach to correcting abnormal, disease-causing biological processes is to administer pharmacological agents such as drugs that target hormone and neurotransmitter receptors.
